Crowns and bridges for teeth are reliable, long-lasting solutions for restoring both the strength and appearance of your smile.
Crowns, also known as caps for teeth or dentist caps are custom-made “caps” that fit over damaged or weakened teeth, protecting them from further wear while restoring their natural shape, strength, and beauty. They are often recommended after root canal treatment, large fillings, or fractures, and can be crafted high-quality porcelain to blend seamlessly with your other teeth.
Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth without the need for dentures and are a common solution when considering bridges for teeth. By anchoring an artificial tooth (or teeth) to the natural teeth or implants on either side, a bridge closes gaps, restores chewing function, and prevents neighbouring teeth from drifting out of place. This helps maintain a balanced bite and protects the stability of your whole smile.
At Gentle, we use a wide range of state-of-the-art materials and advanced design techniques, working with some of the UK’s leading porcelain technicians. This ensures your crown or bridge not only feels strong and comfortable but also looks beautifully natural – giving you the confidence to eat, speak, and smile with ease.

This lady’s old veneers kept coming off and she suffered from headaches. The restorations were changed to a new style of more characterised crowns, and the bite was rebuilt to reduce the chances of things coming off and needing to rush to the dentist. She was delighted when her facial discomfort settled after the treatment. These front crowns were intentionally made, not perfectly straight, to give that supernatural appearance.

This lady was self-conscious about her receding gum line and felt increasingly panicky as her veneers kept coming off. Her treatment consisted of gum grafting to cover the dark roots, new porcelain crowns with underlying design aspects built in to improve retention and new white fillings in the back teeth to give more bite stability and reduce the chances of the new crowns coming off. The patient was delighted with the result; now, she loves smiling again and can relax due to the improved bite.

This lady was dissatisfied with the appearance of her existing crowns. Her treatment involved replacing them with new porcelain crowns that look more natural and dramatically enhanced her smile. We discuss the types of crowns and overall dental crown cost before starting the process with all our patients.

This gentleman had been wearing a lower denture for years and wanted an alternative as it moved every time he ate. The bone wasn’t a suitable shape for implant placement, so a bridge supported by teeth was constructed. This type of bridge is cemented on permanently and doesn’t come off when its looked after properly. This dramatically improved his smile, gave more room for his tongue, and felt a lot better to eat with than the old denture. Getting rid of a denture improves self-esteem.

When teeth are lost, the gum and bone shrink back, leaving a dip in the gum. Below you can see the gum dipping in where the tooth is missing and a bubble on the gum above the adjacent front tooth – this is the opening of an abscess. Unfortunately, this tooth was dissolving and had to be removed, leaving two missing upper front teeth and a significant gum dip. The gum dip was plumped out with a gum graft. Then, a few months later, a porcelain bridge with four teeth was fitted. The adjacent teeth had the gum recontoured as well to harmonise the gum-line as much as possible. We placed a pre-bridge gum graft in this case so that the bridged teeth would appear to be emerging from the gum in a more natural fashion.

A crown is a custom-made cap that covers and strengthens a damaged or weakened tooth. A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to the natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap. Both are designed to restore function and improve the appearance of your smile.
Crowns are recommended if you have a tooth that is broken, heavily filled, worn down, or weakened after root canal treatment. Bridges are an option if you’ve lost one or more teeth and want a fixed solution that restores your bite, speech, and smile without relying on removable dentures.
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, crowns and bridges can last 10-15 years or more. Their longevity depends on factors such as diet, oral habits (like grinding), and keeping the supporting teeth and gums healthy.
They can be made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination of these. Your dentist will recommend the best option for strength, durability, and appearance, depending on where the tooth is in your mouth.
The procedure is not painful. Local anaesthetic is used to ensure you’re comfortable while the tooth is prepared. After the treatment, you may feel mild sensitivity or tenderness, which usually settles quickly.
Caring for crowns and bridges is similar to looking after your natural teeth: brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes, and visit your dentist regularly. For bridges, extra cleaning aids (like floss threaders) may be recommended to keep the area underneath clean.
